Motrin decided to do an advertisement about how women have back and other pain from carrying around their children around after birth. They said that mothers should take Motrin to help deal with the pain of carrying around a baby all day. The video was done in a joking but immature manner for such a large company. Social media aloud people to voice their opinions immediately after viewing the video. People went about doing this by either starting facebook pages about the commercial, writing on blogs, and even writing on microblogs such as twitter. Social media is the new voice of people that can be heard much faster and delivered to a larger audience. It also allows people to connect with each other with basically no restrictions such as language and distance. Now Motrin has to use social media as fast as possible to respond to the people who are offended by their advertisement. In the end, social media works for both the people and the large corporations.

Describe two ways that President-Elect Obama is attempting to involve citizens in government.

President-Elect Obama is attempting to involve citizens in the government by continuing to interact with the American people personally by wanting to hear their stories and goals for this new administration. He is the figurehead but the people are the ones that made this presidency a possibility. He is not forgetting who made this new American dream possible. On his new website he is also keeping the American people informed about what he is doing about selecting his new cabinet and other important issues that affect us, the American people.
Explain if you agree or disagree with Turoczy’s premise that President-Elect Obama is going about the political agenda in a new way.

I agree with Turoczy’s premise that President-Elect Obama is going about the political agenda in a new way because a lot of the time a presidential candidate will say and promise the world to people just to get into office. Then once they are finally in office, they have the position and the power to push forward their own agenda or the agenda of the one’s who helped them reach the position of power. They also do not keep the American people informed about their real agenda and how they are planning on running the country. Obama is using a new technique that is finally going to work because instead of keeping that gap between the people and politics, he is trying to end the separation and bring both sides together.

Web sites like Flickr are useful because they let you upload photos, edit media, organize media, share media with family and friends, map out where photos were taken, make stuff such as photo books and DVDs, and keep in touch with the people in your life. These types of web sites are very powerful and have many useful functions that can be used very easily.

What is one new thing you would like to try out on the flickr site?

I would like to get into editing photos. I have never really tried to edit or manipulate photos but I am very interested in exploring the possibilities.

It benefits me when a media producer uses a creative commons license because it allows users to download, listen and use media material for personal use and enjoyment. It also allows one to remix, sample, translate, and transform a media producers media to a certain level depending on what type of creative commons license they decided to use. It is less of closed door like copyrighted material by allowing fellow media users and producers to use licensed work with legal flexibility. The creative commons license that I would be using for my podcast would probably be the non commercial use license. This is because it deal with schools and creative commons. It covers any work done while going to school which is what the podcast if for. I could also maybe use the podcasting license because I am not going to charge anyone to listen to or download my podcast.

The four factors that a media producer must consider in order to apply fair use to their use of copyrighted material is nature of use, nature of work borrowed, amount of copyright work used, and effect on the market. The nature of use deals with what you have done with the copyrighted material. It deals with whether or not you have transformed the original material. The more that you have transformed the original material, the better off you are. It also covers whether or not it was done for profit. The second factor is just basically how did you borrow the copyrighted material that you used. The third factor is about how much of the original copyrighted work did you borrow. This is a difficult topic because it varies from case to case on what you are doing with the material. And the fourth factor is how did you affect the original market that the copyright material was intended for. Did the new product that was transformed form the copyrighted material appeal to the same audience/ market or did it appeal to  new derivative market. The most important factors are usually the first and fourth.

Tell us about one of your favorite podcasts.  Give us the basics:  title, author, its theme.  Tell us why this podcast is interesting to you.  What about the quality of the podcast.  What are some things the author does well?  What are some things the author should improve (content, quality)? 

My favorite podcast at the moment is called beats in space. It is produced by Tim Sweeney and each week he plays new electronic, dance, and disco house mixes. He also usually always has a guest DJ who is always very popular. I find this podcast very interesting because he work with DFA records which is one of my favorite record companies. The podcast is very professional and can be subscribed to from itunes or by going directly to www.beatsinspace.net. The author of this podcast does a good job with introducing new and old music, telling people about what is going on in the dance music scene in New York, and any upcoming shows in the area. I am very satisfied with the content and quality of the podcast. I have been listening to it for four years now.

Now tell us about your podcast idea.  What might you podcast about?  What would be the community for your podcast- who would like to listen to it?  What content would you put in your first five episodes?

I have an idea to do a podcast about electronic music. I would hopefully be broadcasting to the music community. The content that would be in my first five episodes would be the following: Djing, recording music, producing music, new music, recent/upcoming concerts, etc.
